100% Clean Energy for 100% of Atlantans

Energy is at the core of economic activity in Atlanta.

In 2017, the City of Atlanta enacted the Clean Energy Resolution, a pledge to transition to 100 percent clean energy. The Resolution prioritizes energy efficiency, renewable energy, and eliminating reliance on burning fossil fuels to meet Atlanta’s energy needs.

In March 2019, the City of Atlanta adopted “Clean Energy Atlanta” the result of a year-long stakeholder development process, in which thousands of community members weighed in to distill our primary values for a clean energy transition for all Atlantans.

SCS was engaged by Hummingbird Firm to support a contract with the Sierra Club, GA Chapter to ensure comunity members were engaged, involved and educated around Clean Energy and the City of Atlanta’s Clean Energy Advisory Board. We worked to identify six communities in the city that had the highest energy burden, ensure they had representatives on the advisory board AND that we created educational programming and support around initiatives that mattered to them. This was designed by and for the communities most impacted by the absence of clean energy.

In addition to the support provided to these NPU representatives, we also served on the steering committee for the Clean Energy Advisory Board providing strategic support and guidance. We created plain language translation of an 80+ page Clean Energy Report and worked with community leaders to develop a 20 page Plain Language Clean Energy Report.

PREPARING COMMUNITIES FOR CLEAN ENERGY

The Federal Government has set a goal to make half of all new vehicles sold in the U.S. in 2030 zero-emissions vehicles, and to build a convenient and equitable network of 500,000 chargers to help make EVs accessible to all Americans for both local and long-distance trips. Many vehicle owners cannot charge vehicles at home and need a place to charge locally.

SME’s/small to medium sized enterprises need the infrastructure to support this just transition to clean energy and minority-owned businesses are in even greater need.

It takes 5-6 hours to charge a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) from empty and can increase the time at your business if the station is available.
