HABESHA, Inc. is a Pan-African organization that cultivates leadership in youth and families through practical experiences in cultural education, sustainable agriculture, entrepreneurship, holistic health, and technology.

SCSN is no stranger to HABESHA, Inc. having provided multiple services for the organization in the past.  We were honored and excited to be selected to support the development and design of a culturally-relevant inaugural adult workforce development program, URBAN GREEN JOBS. This program was developed in partnership with The Nature Conservancy and proved to be a solid model the first year focusing on tree canopy conservation and expanded to cover an even wider breadth of sustainability education and training for the next three years. 

The success of this workforce development training program has attracted national attention for HABESHA, Inc. as an organization. Boasting 100% retention for the training, as a testament to tailoring the content and experience for the participant demographics for four consecutive years. By taking an unapologetic stance on intentionally educating, training, politicizing and exposing Black residents of metro-Atlanta communities experiencing generational divestment to become land stewards, leaders, entrepreneurs and citizen scientists our impact has been immense. 

Programming was wholistic and encompassed conservation, green infrastructure, watershed management, water quality, greenspace management, environmental justice/policy, urban agriculture, team building, tree health and monitoring from a Pan-African lens. Additionally, program management was provided and participants had the opportunity to stream cleanings, exposure opportunities, partnership development and ensuring practical application of skills with various urban and rural farms and community organizations were embedded in the holistic design of the program.
